About us
Our work promise to uphold the trust placed
Our founder recognized the necessity for increased representation of immigrant women. This realization gave birth to our organization: IFKA Community Services, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Lewiston, Maine. IFKA means Mother Earth in Somali. Since its inception, IFKA has been guided and fueled by the leadership of immigrant mothers. We came together to share our experiences, learn, understand, and make a difference in our community.
We are committed to addressing the unique challenges immigrants face, particularly during their initial years in a new country. We empathize with the extraordinary emotional and mental challenges that this vulnerable period entails, and our primary goal is to alleviate these difficulties. Having been immigrants themselves since 1993, our leadership brings a wealth of firsthand experience in overcoming these challenges.
Inspiring & Helping Live Better Lifestyle
Without sufficient support, immigrants face higher rates of depression, incidents of violence, and run-ins with the judicial system. We understand the critical importance of addressing these issues and tirelessly provide essential tools and resources. Our background uniquely positions us to offer invaluable support services to those we serve.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower immigrants in our community through high-quality support services. We are dedicated to creating opportunities for every individual to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. Our commitment is to actively engage with the community and foster inclusivity.
